Nanche

or nance is a yellowish fruit native to Central America, which I'd never heard of until yesterday when I looked up the menu for a local Mayan frozen treat shop. The SO has been driving past it almost every Saturday on the way to and from Battletech sessions and wanted to try it out.

So we went there this evening, I got a nanche popsicle, and now I think I like nanche. It tastes something like a very mellow orange.

I believe I've seen them in glass jars in the grocery store before. After watching this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxC_m2r6OOs_) and reading the varied comments (tastes like cheese & pineapple; needs to be very ripe then is sweet; no, shouldn't be eaten fresh, should be fermented, etc.), I am intrigued. This comment on the video may be true: "Nanches are waaaay better in popsicles, ice cream, liquor or syrup, most of the cheesy flavor is gone and that pineapple taste is more dominant."
