The local fast-food chain of record around here is Burgerville. Burgerville's two big things are that it uses local ingredients, and it runs seasonal (well, monthly) specials.

Last month's special was an almond nut butter milkshake. I do not care for almonds or nut butter milkshakes, so I gave that one a miss. But this month they announced three things I decided I wanted to try, so last Friday's dinner expedition was to the drive-through at our local Burgerville to get:

#1 - Asparagus "fries", full-size spears fried in what seemed like a basic flour/egg/seasoning coating. I'm not a huge fan of asparagus, but this was very good-- tender, not bitter, not overwhelmed by the coating.

#2 - Hopyard Cheddar burger, featuring cheddar cheese made with hops from a local brewery. Mostly a standard burger, but the cheese tasted like actual cheddar cheese, in contrast with most cheesburger toppings. Would definitely have again.

#3 - Strawberry lemonade cookie sandwich, made by Ruby Jewel (another signature local chain), consisting of two lemon cookies with a strawberry ice cream filling. Very lemony, very strawberry-y. Tastes like summer.
