The air is completely clear again, though it still tasted a lot like overcooked bacon yesterday.

What I was going to write about last Sunday before the wildfires pushed it out of my mind was that it was 6 months to the day since I was last in the office. The date for it reopening is currently not before January 4th (which would be the first regular workday of 2021), but I can't see it happening even then. Yes, there could plausibly be one or more vaccines declared fit for use by the end of the year, but figure in the time and effort to manufacture and distribute it, and then priority for healthcare workers and the especially vulnerable, and us white-collar office folks probably won't be seeing it until well into the spring at least.

Which means we are, at best, not quite halfway through this thing. Well, the acute phase of it, anyway. It's now estimated that 20% of people who recover from covid-19 suffer from post-covid syndrome, which lasts months at minimum. In a way the pandemic is going to last a long time after the virus is gone.
