Delayed by technical difficulties with the site scheduler, here it is. Boy is it tempting to just let Yashahime slide off the bottom of the list and replace it with Attack on Titan now.

After the first pass through actually writing the winter anime preview, there are now 15 brand-new sfnal premieres. Well, 16 really, but I'm counting the two shows that may be up to something very interesting together as one so I have a better chance of fitting both of them into my lineup if I decide I need to.

About a year ago is when blood samples collected in the US start showing antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 specifically, so happy viralversary, my fellow Americans. Let's all celebrate by getting vaccinated as soon as we can!

I've been noticing for a long time that Oregon always survives fairly well in post-apocalyptic settings. It never gets hit by nukes, or devastated by crop diseases, or taken over by the new military dictatorship, or whatever. And now this is happening for real, with the Pacific Northwest being one of only two regions of the country (the other being New England) that hasn't had its hospitals stretched to the breaking point at some time this year.

There isn't a clear reason why. Oregon is characterized as a blue state, but even Portland is less progressive than people think it is, and east of the Cascades it is politically indistinguishable from Idaho. And we have had mask deniers and anti-mask protests here, but on a much smaller scale than many places. It may just be the fact that our governor has stuck to the business of issuing proclamations when necessary and letting the health officials take care of the day-to-day announcements. It's been known for a long time that the more politicians are associated with health measures, the more politicized people's reaction to them gets. Some people may have enjoyed the Andrew Cuomo Show this spring, but it probably contributed a lot to the polarization around masks.

Weather this week: Dark. It's not just the shortened days. We've had a series of relatively warm storms roll through this week, the kind that bring temperatures of nearly 50F but also flooding. When not actively raining it's still be heavily overcast.
