The upswing, week 4
Feb. 14th, 2021 06:28 pmHow much snow did we get? This weekend saw a running of the Stumptown Birkebeiner, a cross-country ski race which happens whenever there is enough snow in downtown Portland to have a cross-country ski race. The last one happened in 2017.
Which is to say, only a few inches of snow, but enough to be actual snow, which is a cause for great excitement around here.
On my side of the hills, we only got a couple inches of snow but quite a lot of freezing rain. I haven't so much as walked down to the end of the driveway since Thursday, after discovering Friday afternoon that it had become a solid block of slick ice.
One year ago this weekend I went to the zoo to watch large animals sleeping in sunbeams. That turned out to be my last big outing before everything shut down. The zoo has a YouTube channel which has allowed me to vicariously enjoy animal antics, but I can't wait until I can go there again in person. Not in this weather, though.
