The upswing, week 13
Apr. 18th, 2021 07:42 pmAfter sticking to unseasonable cold for a couple weeks, the weather suddenly turned right around and switched to a taste of summer this weekend. Yesterday we got out the barbecue in temperatures over 80F. This is weather we don't normally see until July. The forecast is for things to gradually settle down over this coming week until we get something more appropriate to the season (60s and rain) next weekend.
The big national news today is that 50% of adults in the US have now gotten at least their first vaccine shot. There is talk of maybe reaching actual herd immunity one of these days, although the estimates for how may people will need to be vaccinated keep edging up as the virus strains get more contagious.
Also, yes, I saw the news about the J&J vaccine. Nothing I can do but wait, be aware of the symptoms of blood clots (at least they are extremely obvious symptoms which will not be mistaken for anything else), and remind myself that as far as we currently know, they're even less common than allergic reactions.
At the day-to-day level, things continue to be inconveniently hectic. We had a plumber in on Thursday (scheduled weeks ago) to take a look at a leak and wound up with a new kitchen faucet. Monty was scheduled for a dental cleaning months from now, but yesterday we got a call from the vet saying that there'd been a cancellation and would Monday work, which it would, so we then had to hustle to bring him in right then for the pre-appointment blood work.
I'm all excited about getting out more soon, but it would be nice to have a few unexciting days in a row first.
