This morning we rushed out to get a Christmas tree before the local cut-it-yourself places ran out. Oregon produces more Christmas trees than any other state in the US, you can drive in just about any direction out of the Portland urban growth boundary and you will find Christmas tree farms, but just like everything else there are supply chain problems and shortages these days. A couple of the local farms are already down to just pre-cut trees.

The place we usually end up at had some remaining cuttable stock. We wound up with a Nordman fir, a sturdy, bushy option which also turns out to be tougher to saw through than the typical Douglas fir. We got something that was a good height, but didn't pay attention to how wide it was. This is the first tree where we've had to rearrange furniture to give ourselves enough room to walk past it. We'll have to remember to check that next year.

After that there was a stop at the local Hallmark store, where a Christmas miracle occurred in the form of finding a set of holiday cards we could agree on almost immediately, and one of the newer local food cart pods to pick up lunch. All in all an excellent morning.
