World Tourism Day: When you visit a new place, do you hit all the main tourist attractions or do you prefer to travel off the beaten path? Do you live in a place that has any famous tourist attractions?

More off the beaten path. I was in Winnipeg recently and what I really loved was exploring the skyway on my morning walk every day.

Portland has Powell's City of Books, which is famous in some circles.

I'm vaguely annoyed with myself for not going and at least taking a picture of the other statue of Jón Sigurðsson, the father if Icelandic independence. The first one (to which I linked) is in the park across from the Althing (the Icelandic legislature), but for reasons I haven't found, there is a copy of it near the Winnipeg provincial parliament, and it would have been an easy walk from the Winnipeg Convention Centre. I remember wanting to go have a look, but I forgot about it until today.
