The upswing, week 5

Yesterday, I went out on my bike for an errand. As I was walking into the store, a man approached me (to the degree that people approach each other at all these days) and asked if I was the same person he used to see on a major local road all the time. I said yes, I used to ride that up to the MAX station as part of my commute.
His commute involved biking the same stretch of road, it turns out. Now we both work from home indefinitely.
I remember that the coronavirus was a regular topic when chatting with my coworkers by this time last year. We had more or less accepted that at some point the virus would make it here and we'd all get sent home for a while. Sometime in the last week or so of February, upper management sent a message out to everyone to say customers had been inquiring about whether we had business continuity plans in the event a pandemic arrived in the US. Upper management wanted us to know that yes, we did. (And we did ultimately have a smoother transition to working at home than many places.)
