The upswing, week 8
Mar. 14th, 2021 07:03 pmOne year ago yesterday, my office officially closed, and I took my monitors and snacks home from work and set them up on the card table. As I left I said to my grandboss, "See you in a few weeks, hopefully."
[pause for laughter]
March 11 seems to be serving as the unofficial anniversary of When the Pandemic Got Real for purposes of articles about one year dealing with it, probably as that was the day last year when the WHO could finally bring itself to say "pandemic".
So here we are, one year on, still working from home, sticking to essential errands, and generally trying to stay the heck away from other human beings. But this year, the drizzly days of spring are enlivened by figuring out vaccine logistics, at least.
In the Portland area, we have a choice of two mass vaccination sites (at the airport and the convention center) and an increasing number of pharmacy chains. A few days ago, picking up a prescription at the nearest one, I asked about whether they'd be participating as the supply increases, and was told yes, some of their locations would be getting vaccines as early as this week.
So that brings us up to at least four different chains we can look at for vaccine appointments. I've been checking appointment Web sites to see how they work, in anticipation of being eligible in just over two weeks, but a couple of them don't let you see which locations are available before you have to enter your information and assert that you are eligible to be vaccinated in your state.
In the meantime, spring is definitely springing. The daffodils are up all around the neighborhood, and the trees all have buds.
