The upswing, week 17

Despite what I said about roses before, we're seeing some blooming already. The weather is now consistently warm. Today was especially nice, just the kind of day to be out doing things around town.
Can't do that yet, though. Under the new mask guidance, they're still required on public transit, and I realized last week that another big limit on my travel is that I don't want to be out of the house long enough to have to use a public restroom, the ne plus ultra of a poorly ventilated space full of other people's breath.
Earlier this week, before the CDC changed its guidance, Oregon's governor named a target for lifting most restrictions. When 70% of state residents 16 and older have had at least one shot, things can take another big step toward normal. This is expected to be sometime in June, though with vaccination rates drifting downward, probably late June.
After the new mask guidance, businesses in this state were given the option of allowing vaccinated customers go unmasked, provided they can prove they're vaccinated. Most businesses have determined that will be too much drama for them and are sticking to asking everyone to wear masks.
