Dallas has A-Kon, the longest-running anime-fandom convention in the Americas if not anywhere.
A-Kon 31 was held at the beginning of June, after a 2-year hiatus. I can tell you that, although there was officially a mask requirement, it was not enforced. Those of us working on the con mostly took it pretty seriously, but the Irving Convention Center employees, whose responsibility it allegedly was to enforce this requirement at the entry doors, weren't even masked themselves.
Also the cops were out in force. I saw at least two people in "Irving Fire Department Arson Investigator" polo shirts, and was given to understand that the bomb squad van was parked out back the entire time. Apparently there was some concern about the Texas population of aspiring Erostratuses.
