World Snow Day: Does it snow where you live? If not, have you ever seen snow? If yes, what do you think of snow?

Sometimes Portland gets through a whole winter with no snow. Those are ironically the colder winters, because the cold weather here is very dry. I will take snow over 25 mph sustained winds howling out of the Columbia Gorge, thank you.

It doesn't snow in the San Francisco area, where I'm originally from, so snow is still a little weird and magical to me.

The best snowfall ever happened when I was 15. It was a heavy one (which means several inches, around here) and it hit with two school days left before the start of winter break, before we'd been given any homework to do over the break, and closed the schools for both those days.

I grew up in the Seattle area, as you know Bob, so yes it is magical and wonderful and I miss it desperately most winters. I keep promising myself to take a snow vacation where I rent a cabin with John for a weekend, maybe up near Tahoe, and we just spend two or three days all snug watching it snow (ideally with a crackling fire in the fireplace).

What I remember from years of driving to Portland to see all my relatives at Christmas was the ice storms and how crazy cold it was compared to Seattle.
