I currently work on software that handles college applications (submitting them, not evaluating them). Thus everything about the admissions scandal has been required reading. And that's how someone came to share this in a work-related chatroom yesterday...

Ah, Lifetime Original Movies… what would we do without them?

I suppose American TV in general never held much interest for me, but I recall being definitively turned off to it (so to speak) sometime in the 1990s, when the fad for "realistic" medical shows really hit. Suddenly, anytime you turned on the box, you were liable to see scalpels cutting into viscera. I couldn't help but reflect that the "hypospray" on Star Trek came about because the script of one episode (Whom Gods Destroy, as I recall) required Dr McCoy to be shown giving an injection, but NBC Standards & Practices would not allow showing a needle penetrating skin.
