Hopefully soon I'll stop feeling like I have to check Politico obsessively to find out what new crazy thing is going on every day. But I will keep reading the weekend edition of Politico Playbook, because it always includes links to a few interesting non-political articles.

Like this one, for instance: "Why Is There a Bucatini Shortage?" is fascinating and entertainingly written tale of intercontinental supply chains, ramen, the FDA, and skulduggery at the heart of Big Pasta.

Potato: For lunch yesterday, I had a side of fries left over from our dinner the night before. At around 2 potatoes' worth, it was a meal all by itself. I will say this for everything becoming takeout, it's a lot easier to avoid the pressure to overstuff myself when I can just say, "I'll put this box in the fridge for later."

Apple: For my second attempt ever at making a Dutch baby, I used Opal apples. (For the first one, a couple months ago, I used a berry mix, having conveniently forgotten how tart raspberries get when you bake them.) This worked great except I turned out to have about double the amount of apple I needed. I chopped up the rest and can make another Dutch baby with it in a couple days.

Mushrooms: Portabellas, used in tonight's dinner.

Master list here.
