Donut Day: Do you like donuts? Have you ever made your own? If/when you buy donuts, what it your go-to place -- is it a major chain (Dunkin' Donuts, Tim Hortons, Krispy Kreme, etc.), or do you have a favourite independent bakery?

I love donuts! I've never attempted to make them myself, though.

Portland barely has as any chain donut stores. There's one Krispy Kreme in the whole metropolitan area, no Tim Horton's yet, and I'm not sure if we have any Dunkin's.

Portland has its own mini-chains, of which my favorite is Sesame Donuts. My top recommendation is Donut Day, a couple miles from me, which is an independent store.

I can't have regular donuts anymore, as they typically contain milk. But there's another independent store a few miles from my home, Donut Palace, which famously makes vegan donuts on Saturdays. In fact, I have plans to try to get there tomorrow.

I've only ever been to Voodoo Donuts in Portland, but I am not actually all that crazy about super loaded "fun" donuts. Good old glazed or cake donuts are fine with me. I don't find my lactose sensitivity reacts to donuts, thank goodness, although...maybe it would be better for my figure if I had to work harder to find vegan ones. Hope you got some today!
