International Day of Democracy: How would you rate the health of your country's democracy and democratic institutions (assuming you live in one!)? What could be done to strengthen your country's democratic institutions?
My country's politics dominate everyone's headlines, you all know about it, so let's skip to the improvements. At the federal level, we need to ditch the Electoral College and go to direct nationwide popular vote. The NPVIc is a half-measure, and it won't encourage people in the political minorities in deep-red or deep-blue states to come off the sidelines the way a real popular vote would.
Second, at least at the state and local level, we need ranked-choice voting. Due to US elections being administered at the individual state level, I don't know if there's a way to make a national ranked-choice vote work.
