Mushroom-rice soup

2 T butter
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb mushrooms, sliced
1/2 steamer bag of basmati rice (recipe calls for 1/4 cup uncooked long-grain rice, but very little was left in the rice section, and then when I opened it I realized it was partially cooked and wound up eyeballing my best guess at what the cooked volume should be)
1/2 tsp thyme
4 cups no-salt-added chicken broth (recipe says 6, but 4 worked)
1/4 cup white cooking wine
1/2 tsp salt
Last week's experiment, selected because the soup cookbook popped open to this page at random and I thought it looked good. Despite adjustments on the fly, did turned out good! Thinking about adding some chicken next time.
