I had a routine dental appointment yesterday. For anyone who's curious what that entails in these nervous times:

1. Patients are expected to be masked when walking in.

2. Temperature checks with one of the doohickeys that gets pressed against your forehead. I am irrationally nervous about relying on these since I personally can't marshal anything better than "low-grade fever" even when otherwise obviously sick. I know, I know, it works for most people, calculated risks, etc.

3. The mask stays on until you're settled into the chair and handed some 30% hydrogen peroxide mouthwash to use for a minute. Like so many other dental substances, someone has added a flavor vaguely resembling mint in the belief that this will improve the taste. It does not improve the taste. At least, as I remarked to the hygienist, it confirmed I still had my sense of taste.

4. Hand sanitizer is available for after you've touched pens and keypads and things on your way out. All the various high-touch surfaces are also getting frequent wipedowns.
