Yesterday morning, I tried riding my bike up to near the light rail station for the first time since mid-March. I can still make it, but I need to work on staying in practice more. I need to find ways to get some exercise on the weekends, period. Normally I'd be walking to a bus stop a mile away on Saturday mornings to go to the farmers' market, then I might be riding my bike to the gaming store or going to a local attraction later in the day or on Sunday.

My workplace ran a survey a couple weeks ago about the eventual return to the office (now set at no earlier than November). One of the questions was about how much we'd like to be in the office: all the time, 2-3 days a week, or never? And apparently 57% of us said that we'd prefer permanent remote work. No promises were made but we were told that this will be factored into future office planning.

The sun is shining, the days are warm, and a dozen miles from my bubble, the feds in downtown Portland have escalated to pulling people into unmarked vans seemingly at random. The mayor, the governor, and various other officials have formally requested that the feds stop helping, but you can guess how well that has gone.

There is exactly one thing I think I can do about it, and it's three long months away. Stay safe out there, everyone.

There's also a really bizarre NOTAM out, which bans overflights of downtown Portland from ground level to 1000 feet. One gets the impression that the idea is to keep news helicopters from seeing what is going on. I have the feeling it contains at least one quite unconventional statement :

E. THE THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (DHS), JARRED PENNINGTON, PHONE 410-245-1545, IS IN CHARGE OF THE ON SCENE RESPONSE ACTIVITY.
