Day 13: I forget where we stayed the night exactly, but from Bowling Green we continued up I-65 to Indianapolis, or at least to its exurbs, where we got lost a bit in the network of county roads before finding our way to the house of a friend of the SO. We visited for a couple hours, had some thick-cut bacon, and then found our way to the local grocery for another resupply of snacks. After that it was onto I-70 and onward to Kansas.

The rain found us that afternoon. After a few hours of negotiating windy, narrow roads (for an interstate, anyway) through thickly forested terrain with the rain slowly increasing to an outright torrent, the SO announced that we would be done for the day once we could make it past the bulk of St. Louis. So I found us a hotel just the other side of the Missouri, right next to a riverfront casino, as it happened, and we called it an early night.

Day 14: We were now headed for Omaha to visit another friend that the SO hadn't seen in forever, but we made a detour near Kansas City for another point of personal interest. The truck has a sticker on the windshield asserting that it was built at GM's Kansas City plant (actually located in Claycomo, just northeast of Kansas City proper). I thought it would be neat to get a look at its birthplace, since we were passing by anyway.

It turns out that the plant does not wish to have people stopping by to visit or take pictures, so we settled for driving by and taking a couple pictures, aided by a fortuitously timed red light.

Then it was I-29 to Omaha, saying hi to the friend, and staying the night nearby.

Next time: Homeward bound

Driver's Notes:

Relating the level of destruction wrought upon the Corvettes to my Indiana author-friend, and seeing his reaction, I was reminded of a quote from an infamous YouTube video: "That's right -- You've Offended Christopher Judge."

It is understandable why Ford does not want photographs taken near its facilities; I have seen the "spy footage" taken of prototypes near same.

The gaming store I played at in Omaha was long-gone; but the other one had, to put it politely, shrunk massively from what it was when I lived in town....
