I didn't watch the Worst Presidential Debate Ever because I've already made up my mind, but I did see the Weird Al video about it. It will help explain the madness that was 2020 to any readers of the future who stumble across this entry that a Weird Al video being created for the opinion section of the New York freakin' Times was only the fourth or fifth weirdest thing that happened in presidential politics this week.

Fall is finally arriving, with chilly mornings and occasional fog. The air still smells of smoke occasionally, but the air quality index hasn't gone much above the border of Moderate, so nowhere near as bad as what we saw a few weeks ago.

Roses are still blooming in a few yards. The local park is now dominated by patches of gossamer.

Also popping up around the neighborhood are Halloween decorations. The first ones showed up almost two weeks ago now. As a firm believer in no Halloween decorations outside of October I am officially annoyed. (I also feel very strongly about Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving.) Plus all the tombstones and skeletons are not really doing it for me this year.

Having random groups of children come up to one's door for candy is not looking like a good idea this year, but suggestions are circulating about how to do socially distanced trick-or-treating. I'm thinking we could put out some of our traditional chocolate eyeballs in sandwich bags, three or four eyes to a bag, in a bowl out at the end of the driveway, with a jack-o'-lantern to serve as a beacon.

I've basically decided we're not doing trick or treats for the kids this year. Too dangerous. No outside decorations by us for such either as we don't want to give the wrong message. Being in the city we don't have a driveway etc. so that is not a solution for us.

Our city in general is playing ultra cautious about the virus. The rest of the state may be completing phase 3 reopening but we are not. We're watching the infection and disease rate rise all around us as the Republican governor continues to push forward, each reopening or change has made it worse. With 500-700 new infections in the state daily.

I didn't watch The Debate simply because I didn't want to die of an aneurysm before my 40th birthday. I'm having trouble even making it through the Saturday Night Live version.

I had a really great plan for Hallowe'en this year involving putting candy into a uranium-glass serving bowl, sitting on a pedestal containing a blacklight, so that it would glow ethereally for no obvious reason (add dry ice for fog effects if extra creepiness desired). Not sure if I'm going to have a chance to deploy it.
